BW LNG joins partners at Gastech Bangkok 2026 to celebrate three-tank LNG carrier design

15 September 2026, BANGKOK – BW LNG was pleased to join GTT, HD Hyundai Heavy Industries and DNV on Day 1 of Gastech Exhibition & Conference for a keynote session and cocktail reception at GTT’s stand, celebrating the development of the world’s first large-scale LNG carriers featuring a three-tank configuration.

Jointly developed by BW LNG, GTT, HD Hyundai Heavy Industries and DNV, the innovative 176,800 m³ LNG carrier design marks a step forward from the conventional four-tank configuration.

Built around GTT’s proven Mark III Flex membrane containment system, the three-tank design offers increased cargo capacity, a lower passive boil-off rate and greater operational flexibility under partial loading conditions. It also enhances energy efficiency while reducing unit freight costs, addressing two key performance drivers for LNG shipping.

The session featured insights from BW LNG CEO Yngvil Eriksson Åsheim, GTT Group CEO Francois Michel, HD Hyundai Heavy Industries CTO & EVP Hong-Ryeul Ryu, and DNV VP, Regional Manager Korea & Japan Vidar Dolonen, who shared their perspectives on the development of the new design and its potential for the future of LNG shipping.

BW LNG thanks its partners and everyone who joined the session.
