Cadeler A/S, a key supplier of marine installation and engineering services in the offshore wind industry, has signed a contract with Vestas for the EnBW’s He Dreiht offshore windfarm project. Cadeler is set to provide the installation and transportation of 64 record-breaking 15 MW Vestas turbines (WTGs).
Today, Cadeler has signed a contract with Vestas for the transportation and installation of 64 record-breaking 15MW WTGs that will be installed at the He Dreiht windfarm in the German part of the North Sea. The WTG installation is scheduled to commence in the second quarter of 2025 and will be finished by the end of the year. It will be executed by one of Cadeler’s two O-class vessels, which will feature a new crane with a lifting capacity of 1600 metric tons at a radius of 40 metres and will come in perfect use with the installation of turbines of this impressive size.
Large scale commercial project with mega size turbines
The He Dreiht project, which will operate on a subsidy-free basis by EnBW, will highlight the attractive turbine solution which Vestas is able to offer through its V236-15.0 MW platform. Germany’s political ambitions to produce 20GW offshore wind energy by 2030 call for ground-breaking technology, and thankfully Vestas is able to offer the needed solutions to reach these targets while Cadeler will play its part to make the plans a reality.
The windfarm will be situated in German waters, 90 kilometres northwest of Borkum and about 110 kilometres west of Helgoland.
The preferred supplier agreement was signed in November of last year and has now been turned into a conditional order agreement, signed by all involved parties.
“This project builds on the positive collaboration we have had with Vestas for years. We are excited to see how our newbuild cranes will come in use when we install turbines of these record sizes and demonstrate the extensive know-how and experience of our on and offshore team as well as superior capabilities of our upgraded O-class vessels. We look forward to joining forces with Vestas once again on this ground-breaking project.” says Mikkel Gleerup, CEO of Cadeler.
Flemming Ougaard, Senior Vice President of Construction in Vestas Northern & Central Europe states: “We are pleased to partner up with Cadeler once again and further develop the relationship between our companies. Choosing Cadeler as the supplier of transportation and installation of V236-15.0 MW turbines for the He Dreiht project is based on the strong partnership we have developed on previous projects, and we are confident that Cadeler is the right partner to install our new turbine on its first large-scale project. Our companies are currently successfully collaborating on the Seagreen project, Scotland’s largest windfarm.”
