BW LNG – Advancing talent development at Nor-Shipping 2025

BW LNG was delighted to take part in the first Nor-Shipping LNG Conference on 4 June 2025 in Oslo, where global leaders in shipping and energy came together to discuss how the industry can adapt and thrive in a rapidly evolving energy landscape.

With this year’s Nor-Shipping focused on future-proofing the industry, the discussion naturally turned to one of the sector’s most critical challenges: people.

Hosted by Eleni Lazaratou of MARAN GAS MARITIME INC., the insightful session focused on future-proofing the LNG industry.

Yngvil Eriksson Åsheim, CEO of BW LNG, shared that the growing need for talent tops her priority list – the LNG industry alone is expected to require an additional 1,400 experienced seafarers.

Joining her on the panel were Suryan Wirya-Simunovic of Mitsui O.S.K. Lines, Ltd., who highlighted the importance of strong onshore teams in supporting this growth. Claire Wright of Hanwha Ocean stressed the importance of strong onshore teams as a critical component of tackling the people challenge. Gillian Boccara from Kpler further noted that increasing compliance and regulation will raise the bar for training and skills development across the sector.

With the LNG sector at the heart of the global energy transition, ensuring a skilled workforce is essential to meeting both current demands and long-term sustainability goals.
