21 May 2024 — Enhancing efficiency and sustainability across its fleet, we are pleased to share that we have completed extensive dry dock repairs on over 20 of our modern vessels (of varying ages with an average age of 8.3 years) over the past 12 months. These repairs, which encompass a range of upgrades and enhancements, are poised to elevate operational performance and environmental efficiency across the Hafnia fleet.
Some notable upgrades that have taken place during the dry dock period across these vessels (at their various life cycle stages) include (but are not limited to):
- Condition Assessment Programme (CAP): All tankers reaching the age of 15 years need to carry out CAP Surveys. Hafnia vessels that did their 3rd Special Survey dockings carried out both CAP Hull and CAP Machinery Surveys obtaining the highest grade of CAP 1 Ratings.
- Class Renewal Surveys: Several vessels underwent 1st, 2nd, and 3rd Special Renewal Surveys with their respective classification societies, including ABS, DNV, and Lloyds Register, affirming their operational and structural integrity and compliance with class requirements.
- Retrofit of Alfa Laval Ballast Water Treatment Systems (BWTS): Hafnia has installed state-of-the-art BWTS, mitigating the risk of invasive species, and promoting clean ballast water management.
- Main Deck Upgrades: A deck upgrade for our Cat Class MR vessels to renew deck fittings, supports, and gratings, and to change the colour to “deck red” which is the standard Hafnia livery. This is also a part of our Life Extension planning for the vessels.
- Cargo Oil Tank (COT) Heating Coil Repairs: Repairs were carried out on steam heating coil systems for COTs to maintain optimal cargo temperature control and enhance commercial and operational flexibility.
- Installation of MEVIS Duct (Energy Saving Device): These new MEWIS ducts augment energy efficiency by reducing propulsion losses due to the ship’s wake and cavitation, leading to reduced fuel consumption and lower emissions.
- Hull Coating Upgrades: The application of advanced Silicon-based hull coatings from brands such as Seacoat, Jotun, and Hempel enhances vessel hydrodynamics, minimizes fouling, and prolongs dry dock intervals, resulting in significant cost savings and environmental benefits.
These comprehensive upgrades underline operational excellence, environmental sustainability, and regulatory compliance. The completion of these dry dock repairs marks a significant milestone in our ongoing efforts to optimize fleet performance and minimize environmental impact – with Hafnia’s Dry Dock process focusing on innovation and efficiency.
We congratulate our Dry Dock teams both onshore and at sea involved in the upgrade of our vessels and to our partnering yards (IMC Shipyard, Yiu Lian Dockyards, Unithai Shipyard & Engineering, CSSC Dalian Shipbuilding Industry, Cosco Shipping Heavy Industry, Asyad Dry Dock, and Tersan Shipyard) for their collaboration.
