Working in BW is not just a job – it’s being part of a global family with strong values, where collaboration and diverse experiences drive success. I am delighted to be at the forefront of the energy landscape, as the Regional Head of Gas Solutions for Americas at BW LNG. My interactions with BW first arose from an energy project in Brazil. As a client, the BW team left a deep impression on us for their work culture, exceptional problem-solving skills, and their commitment to finding the most innovative solutions for our needs.

Based in Rio de Janeiro, we provide hands-on support for our FSRU projects in the region – BW Magna in Brazil and BW Tatiana in El Salvador – and thrive on fostering strong relationships with clients and partners to ensure seamless operations. Beyond existing projects, I’m excited about new opportunities and emerging projects in the Americas where our innovative gas solutions can make a significant impact. It’s a dynamic role that allows me to blend strategic thinking with on-the-ground engagement. Having both the client and supplier perspective has provided a holistic understanding on the expectations and challenges to achieve win-win solutions.

A notable milestone were the successful works on BW Magna without any Lost Time Incident, testament to our team’s dedication. I am glad to be on this journey driving growth and innovation, solidifying BW LNG as a leading provider of gas solutions in the Americas.

Working in BW means being part of a collaborative team, where dedication and going the extra mile are the norm in our work culture. Moving from an offshore role to a shore-based role, I started out as a Junior Technical Superintendent at BW LNG in January 2019.

In my first year at BW LNG, I was given the opportunity to plan and execute my first drydocking. With great teamwork, we delivered on-time on-budget successfully despite the challenges. This was a good example how BW trusts and empowers their employees to lead. The opportunity laid the cornerstones for my role today as a Technical Superintendent in our FSRU fleet.

As the first point of contact for technical matters, no two days at work are the same – I thrive on troubleshooting issues, and ensuring maintenance standards are aligned with BW’s standards. It’s also about keeping a pulse on the clock, and being open to new ways of doing things, as the solutions for today may not be applicable for tomorrow. I am thankful for our robust technical discussions, efficient decision-making process, and speed in getting things done!

I’m proud to have been among the first few Nigerians in BW Group’s Cadet Program. As a leader in the Gas transportation sector, BW’s strong safety culture, commitment to excellence, and growth opportunities have made my career a rewarding one.

Starting as an Engine Cadet in 2006, I’m now a Chief Engineer overseeing the engine room staff, and technical operations and maintenance onboard. I love the adventure of working at sea and being part of a diverse team that values teamwork, respect, and professionalism. I am honoured to be part of a company making a difference with sustainable energy solutions and its commitment to social responsibility.

Since joining BW in 2016, it’s been a fulfilling journey growing with an organisation that empowers its people. As a Crew Manager, I oversee crew recruitment and administration, managing schedules, procedures, and ensure compliance with regulations. It is rewarding to see our seafarers settling well in our ‘Happy Ships’, bonding together over cultural events and birthday celebrations. It’s an honour to be part of an organisation that values diversity and fosters a strong sense of belonging in a positive workplace environment.

I started my career as a Management Associate in BW after graduating in 2016. The two-year programme provided a solid foundation and understanding of the group’s businesses with attachments at the different departments. In my third year, I joined Asset Management for a deep dive into managing the group’s vessel portfolio. Now at BW LNG, we work on floating LNG infrastructure opportunities for the region. This involves engaging potential clients and understanding their needs, to develop creative, innovative solutions. Since my first day, BW’s nurturing environment made me feel welcomed and supported, easing my transition into the corporate world. I am thankful for the career opportunities across BW affiliates, and proud to be part of a forward-looking company grounded in its values. I have many fond memories here – from completing my first vessel sale, to vessel visits onboard, to attending a ship naming ceremony!

I am proud to work for BW LNG, a solid future-oriented player in the LNG space. Working for a global company like BW means having the opportunity to grow professionally by being exposed to different parts of the shipping industry. Joining BW as a Commercial LNG Manager in 2017 with a technical background, it was an excellent opportunity to get an understanding of chartering activities, business development, and managing customer relationships. After five years, I was glad to connect what I learnt as a Commercial LNG Manager with my technical background in my new role as Fleet Manager. Together with the rest of the BW Fleet management team, we ensure our fleet operate efficiently and safely within allocated budgets. We have a great team at BW – the spirit of collaboration and camaraderie in getting things done is outstanding!

Individually it is important that we do our best but at the end of the day we revel in team spirit and collective success. I am proud to start my career with BW as a Commercial Trainee after graduation, where we underwent a comprehensive 18-month programme. The exposure to the Group’s wide-ranging businesses helped me develop an overview of the industry, while broadening my horizons working alongside a global team. As part of the Commercial team, I am excited to feel the pulse of the market in developing new business opportunities for our fleet. Words of encouragement for anyone looking to embark on a career at BW LNG:

Over the next 5 to 10 years, we will see a big change in the shipping industry. On one hand, we are under pressure to reduce our vessels’ impact on the local and global environment, which means many new technology will need to be developed and deployed. On the other hand, a large portion of global shipping is about transporting carbon-based fuels, which will also need to change at some point. Hence, the shipping industry will need to go through some significant development and learning, making the industry even more interesting and rewarding to work in.
